Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 September 2025

1. Who we are

Cheera (“we”, “us”, “our”) is the data controller for personal data processed through cheera.app. Contact us at hello@cheera.app with any privacy questions or to exercise your rights (see Section 7).

2. What we collect

  • Account information: your name and email address, provided when you sign in via magic link.
  • Content you post: photos, videos, captions, comments, reactions, and tags — the content of the boards you use.
  • Payment information: when you make a purchase, payment is processed entirely by Stripe. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded and which product it was for — we do not receive or store your card details.
  • Technical data: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) for security and fault-finding purposes.

3. How we use it

  • To provide the Service — creating boards, showing your feed, sending magic-link sign-in emails, processing the purchases you make.
  • To keep the Service secure and prevent abuse.
  • To comply with legal obligations (e.g. tax records for payments).

We do not use your content or personal data for advertising, and we do not sell it to third parties.

4. Legal basis for processing (UK GDPR)

  • Performance of a contract: processing needed to provide the Service you've signed up for (your account, your boards, fulfilling a purchase).
  • Legitimate interests: security, fraud prevention, and keeping the Service running reliably.
  • Legal obligation: where we're required to keep records (e.g. for tax purposes).

5. Who we share data with

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Cheera. We don't sell your data to anyone, and we don't use it for advertising.

  • Stripe — payment processing. Stripe handles your card details directly; we never see or store them.
  • Google Firebase / Google Cloud Platform & AWS — hosting for our database, file storage, and sign-in system.
  • Resend — sending transactional emails (magic links, receipts, export-ready notifications).

Other members of a board you join can see the content you post to that board, and your name. Board creators can see who has joined their board.

6. International data transfers

Some of our service providers (including Stripe and Google) are based in, or transfer data to, the United States. Where this happens, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data deleted (“right to be forgotten”);
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • receive your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@cheera.app. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you believe we've mishandled your data.

8. Children's data

Cheera accounts are for people 18 and over (see our Terms of Service). Board content may include photos of minors, posted by an adult family member or guardian — that content is provided and controlled by the adult posting it, not by the minor directly.

9. How long we keep data

  • Active accounts and boards: for as long as your account is active.
  • Free-tier boards: after 3 months, a board is archived — it remains visible and its content is retained, but it no longer counts toward your active board limit. Archiving is not deletion.
  • Account deletion: if you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we're required to keep records for legal reasons (e.g. payment records for tax purposes).

10. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including:

  • private, invite-only boards with revocable invite links;
  • media served via short-lived, expiring links rather than public URLs;
  • encrypted connections (HTTPS) throughout the Service.

No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps appropriate to the sensitivity of the data involved.

11. Cookies

See our Cookie Policy for details of the cookies and similar technologies we use.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll take reasonable steps to let you know.
